Insure valuables that you take outside your home

Home insurance covers all your property and valuables when they remain within the walls of your home. If you take any valuable items outside your home, you could perhaps use a separate Valuables Insurance.

Losses to items you take outside your home are covered under home insurance for up to 5,000 euros. If you have valuable jewellery or a camera with objectives, their value may easily exceed the 5,000 euro limit. If this is the case, your best choice is to insure important items with valuables insurance.

A valuable may be
  • a valuable instrument
  • jewellery or watch
  • camera and accessories
  • hunting weapon.

What does valuables insurance cover?

Valuables insurance compensates if something sudden and unforeseeable happens to your property. You will be compensated, for example, if your valuables are stolen or fall and break.

We will primarily compensate for the repair of any broken valuables, if at all possible. If they are beyond repair, you will receive compensation according to its value. The maximum compensation is the sum insured you gave to us.

Musical instruments are carried and transported to gigs, competitions and practice. Since many things can happen during such journeys, musicians should make sure their instruments are insured.

What happens if a piece of jewellery or other valuable disappears or is left behind?

It is extremely annoying if dear and valuable jewellery, a watch or instruments are lost. Therefore it is important that valuables are not left unattended on beaches, in restaurants or on public transport. Alternatively, you can leave any valuables for safekeeping under lock and key

Valuables insurance compensates the insured items owing to disappearance or being left behind only if the exact time, place and conditions of the event can be specified. The fact that an item has disappeared or been left behind must have been discovered immediately at the scene, and an outsider must have been verifiably informed about the loss.

The sum insured of valuables means the monetary value at which you insure your valuables, such as jewellery, instruments of camera and accessories. The sum insured is also the amount which you can at most receive in compensation if a loss occurs.

The sum insured must correspond to the actual value of the item, so you should choose a sum that is equivalent to the price of a new item.
Do remember to update the sum insured if its value changes or if you buy new parts for it.

If a loss occurs, the item’s value will be determined accurately, using experts if necessary. The value of certain items, such as digital cameras and bicycles, is determined on the basis of their age and the age reductions specified in the terms and conditions.

When you want to insure an item worth more than 20,000 euros, a certificate of its value is required. You should then contact our customer service.

As a Pohjola Insurance prime customer you will receive discounts benefits. When you are also an OP cooperative bank owner-customer, you have access to even better benefits and discounts and the bonuses you have received as an owner-customer are used for your insurance premiums.

The insurance is issued by Pohjola Insurance Ltd.
