  • Google Pay is a mobile payment app with which you can pay easily using an Android device or smartwatch in stores, on websites and apps. You can also pay with a smartwatch running on Wear OS.

  • To pay with Google Pay, you need to add your payment card to the Google Pay app – either via OP-mobile or the Google Pay app.
  • Use Google Pay wherever you see the contactless symbol, the Google Pay logo or the Buy with Google Pay button.

General information

Google Pay is a fast, simple way to make contactless payments. Just add your credit or debit card to Google Wallet and pay using your Android device, Pixel Watch, or a Fitbit device everywhere Google Pay is accepted.

When you pay, you don’t need your card or its details, because the payment is made with your device.

To pay with Google Pay, you need to add your payment card to the Google Pay app – either via OP-mobile or the Google Pay app.

Use Google Pay wherever you see the contactless symbol, the Google Pay logo or the Buy with Google Pay button.

The Google Pay app is now the Google Wallet app. The change makes it easier to store and use payment and travel cards.

Google Wallet is a secure and private digital wallet where you can load and manage not only OP’s cards but also other payment and travel cards, tickets, keys and personal ID documents.

With Google Pay, you can easily pay in stores, on websites and apps. Use Google Pay wherever you see either the contactless or Google Pay symbol.

More information is available on the Google Pay website:

You need the following:

  • A compatible device such as an Android device or a Fitbit device that supports Google Pay. Please note that the operating system of the Android device must be Android 7 or newer.
  • Your device must have NFC for making contactless payments in stores.
  • A valid OP card.
  • OP's user ID.
  • If you’re aged between 16 and 17, your guardian needs to have OP’s user ID.
  • The latest version of OP-mobile (62.0 or later) if you want to add a card on OP-mobile.

Google Pay can be used with most Android devices. You can use Google Pay on a smartphone or tablet running the Android 7 (released in 2014) or later. Google Pay can also be used with a smartwatch running Android Wear 2.15 or later. Check Google Pay compatible smartwatches. If needed, contact a smartwatch manufacturer.

Paying in stores also requires using the NFC contactless payment feature (Near Field Communication), which you can enable in the phone’s settings. In the device’s NFC settings, select Default for contactless to make Google Pay the default payment instrument. If Google Pay can’t be used on your device after the above, contact your device’s manufacturer.

You can use Google Pay with all cards issued by OP: OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum, OP Debit, OP Basic, OP Duo, K-Plussa Maksuaika and the OP Business Debit card.

Yes, you can also add OP Business Debit to Google Pay. When adding the card, you need to use OP's personal customer’s credentials. Add the card either on OP-mobile or Google Pay. If you add the card on Google Pay, confirm adding the card with OP-mobile.

You can also add the K-Plussa Maksuaika card to Google Pay. You need a personal customer’s OP user ID to add the card. However, note that when you pay with Google Pay, you will not be able to use Plussa money or Plussa benefits and you will not get the special payment advantage related to paying with the K-Plussa Maksuaika card. This is because Google Pay doesn’t support the K-Plussa customer loyalty programme. To get K Group's Plussa benefits, you need to show the payment reader either a separate Plussa card or an OP payment card with the Plussa feature. The only way to get the special payment advantage related to K-Plussa Maksuaika card is to pay with your physical K-Plussa Maksuaika card at payment terminals in K-Group stores.

Google Pay support for Plussa cards is provided by the K Group. For more information on how to add a Plussa card to Google Pay, please contact the K Group.

If you have previously downloaded the K-Plussa-mobiilikortti app on your phone, you can continue to use it to get Plussa benefits with your phone when you pay with Google Pay. The app was withdrawn from app store in October 2022 and it cannot be downloaded for the time being.

  • You’ll see the version information of your device. Follow the possible instructions on the screen.

Technical support is available on the Google Pay website: Google Pay Help

If needed, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

To check which version you have, tap OP-mobile. On the login screen, tap More, and then Settings. At the bottom of the screen, in the middle, you'll see your version of OP-mobile. Alternatively, go to the Google Play app store to check your version.

On OP-mobile, you'll see the options Add to Google Pay and Manage in Google Pay only if your version is at least 52.0.

You can check on OP-mobile whether your card has been added to Google Pay.

  • Open OP-mobile and log in.
  • Go to Money and select your card.
  • Go to the top right corner (the gear icon) and open card settings.
  • If the card settings include the option Manage in Google Pay, the card is already added to Google Pay.

Alternatively, go to the Google Wallet app and check whether your card is shown as a payment method.

If you can’t add your card on OP-mobile, try adding it with the Google Wallet app.

If you tried to add your card on the Google Wallet app, but confirming the card with OP-mobile didn’t work, check that you’re using the latest OP-mobile version and try again. You can also confirm adding the card by calling OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

If you tried to add your card on the Google Wallet app, check that the card’s validity and security code (CVC or CVV number) are correct. On a credit card, the three-digit security code is next to the signature field on the back of the card. On a debit card, the three-digit security code is located after the debit card number on the back of the card.

Check that your card is a valid OP card that supports the app and can be used for card payments. If you can’t see your card at all on OP-mobile or its use is prevented, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

When adding a card on Google Wallet, you can confirm it on OP-mobile or by calling OP Customer Service. If you want to confirm it on OP-mobile, check that you have OP-mobile’s latest version (52.0 or later).

If you don’t have OP-mobile or confirming on OP-mobile fails, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing). If you’re underage, ask your guardian to call to confirm your card. Your guardian will be asked to identify themself with their OP user ID.

Note that OP-mobile also has device and version requirements.

Adding an OP Business Debit card to Google Pay is possible when you use your personal customer’s OP user ID. Add the card either on OP-mobile or Google Wallet. If you add the card on Google Wallet, confirm adding the card with OP-mobile.

Note that Google Pay can’t be set up with a corporate customer’s user ID or on OP Business mobile. If the card has been granted only for making deposits and not for payments, you can’t use Google Pay with it.

If needed, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

When you add a card on OP-mobile, you don’t need your physical card. When you add a card on Google Wallet, you need your physical card’s details.

Google Wallet may ask your card’s security code (CVC or CVV number) when you’re adding the card. On a credit card, the three-digit security code is next to the signature field on the back of the card. On a debit card, the three-digit security code is located after the debit card number on the back of the card.

If your card has both a credit and debit feature, you need to select which feature to add when you set up Google Pay. You can also add both features, to use the card features the way you want. You can set a default card for payments, but at the time of payment, you can also choose to use another card.

You can get the new design for your card in a mobile wallet, such as Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, by removing the card from the service and then adding it back. If the design of your card is no longer available, the card is displayed with the default design for the card product.

The card design is slightly different due to the requirements of the mobile wallet. For example, the card is displayed horizontally.

Use

In stores – You can pay with Google Pay around the world in all stores that accept contactless payments with Mastercard or Visa cards.

In online stores and apps – You can use Google Pay in online stores and many apps that accept Google Pay. Just select Pay with Google Pay or Google Pay as a payment method.

You can use Google Pay wherever you see one of these symbols:

In stores

You can pay with Google Pay in a store if you see the contactless symbol on the payment reader.

  • Unlock your phone.
  • Hold your phone close to the payment reader until the payment is made.
  • Confirm the payment if requested.

With a smartwatch

For smartwatch payments, the contactless payment amount is not limited. When you wish to pay, open your watch with your device passcode. Open the Google Wallet app. Hold your watch near the payment reader until you hear a sound or feel vibration from your watch.

When using a Fitbit device

Open Google Wallet and enter the device passcode if necessary. Keep the device next to the payment reader POS terminal until the confirmation of payment is visible on it.

On apps and websites

You can use Google Pay in online stores and many apps and avoid having to create an account or give your card details at the time of purchase. Just select Buy with Google Pay and follow the instructions. In Google Play Store, you can see which apps accept Google Pay.

What to do:

  1. Check whether the app or website accepts Google Pay.
  2. Select the Google Pay button.
  3. Check that your details are correct.
  4. Confirm the payment.

The contactless reader will notify you when the payment is accepted. You’ll see a check mark on your device’s display too after a successful payment. Most smartwatches vibrate when the payment is made.

On a website, you’ll know that your payment went through when you see a notification of an accepted payment. You’ll also get a notification of each transaction on your Android device from Google Wallet and OP-mobile or Pivo if you have turned on notifications in the app’s settings.

The first card you add becomes your default card. If you added several cards and want to change your default card, open the Google Wallet app. Select the card you want to set as your default payment method for contactless payments. Then select Make default.

One of your cards must be set as the default card in the Google Wallet app. Your Google Pay payments will be charged from this default card if you don’t select another card at the time of payment.

To pay with another card that’s not your default card, open the Google Wallet app. Then at the time of payment, select the card with which you want to pay. On some devices, you may be able to show Google Pay card options by pressing the Power and the Volume Up buttons at the same time.

If you have several cards on Google Pay, one of them is your default card that will primarily be charged when you pay. If you want to pay with another card instead, you can select it at the time of payment.

A default card is device-specific. It means that your phone and watch may have different default cards.

If you have several OP cards and want to be able to distinguish between them better in the mobile wallet, you can remove the cards from the service and then add them back. This way, you will be able see the design of your card based on the new default selection, as well as a text in the top right corner of a combination card based on the Credit/Debit feature.

Generally, you don’t need to have an internet connection to be able to pay with Google Pay in a store. Payments are executed using the contactless reader’s technology. To see whether the store’s payment reader accepts Google Pay, look for the contactless symbol. In some situations, however, Google Pay refreshes its data and successful payment will then require an internet connection.

Google Pay has the same limits as your card. Your payment must be within your card’s daily spending and withdrawal limits and any usage limits of your account. Whenever you use Google Pay to make a purchase in a store, your card’s Swiped payments limit will be checked. Whenever you pay in an online store or app, the Online and in-app payments limit will be checked.

The regular contactless payment limit of 50 euros doesn’t apply to Google Pay payments, but you do need to first unlock your device if you’re about to pay an amount over 50 euros.

To see the payments you’ve made with Google Pay, go to either OP-mobile or the Google Wallet app.

When you tap your card on Google Wallet, you’ll see the latest transactions made with the card and the device you’re using at the moment. Alternatively, select Activity from the Google Wallet menu to view your transaction history.

Under transactions, Google Wallet shows the preauthorisation amount which may differ from the amount of the final transaction. To check the final transaction details, see your account or credit transactions, bank statement or bill.

On OP-mobile, select your account to see all debit transactions made. To see all credit transactions, select your card.

In Google Pay payments, a virtual account number created for your device is used instead of your card details. This is also shown in receipts. On the basis of the last four digits of the virtual account number, the transaction can be connected to your card. You can find the virtual account number in the card details in Google Wallet.

If the payment reader accepts an OP card, it should also accept Google Pay. You should try to pay again, because the payment reader probably had problems in reading your card. If needed, the shop assistant can start the payment transaction again, which usually helps.

You’ll get a notification of a rejected transaction and the reason for it if you have enabled card notifications on OP-mobile. If needed, call OP Customer Service at 0100 0500 (press 5 for service in English, then press 1 for cards, card payment and invoicing).

On OP-mobile, make sure that push notifications are turned on. To enable notifications, open OP-mobile and go to More – Settings – Notifications.

If your payment with Google Pay doesn’t go through, check the following things:

  • Did you wake up your device? (payments below 50 euros)
  • Did you unlock your device? (payments above 50 euros or all transactions if you have set the unlock requirement for all transactions in your device’s settings)
  • Is the purchase within the credit facility available on your card or account?
  • Is the purchase within your card’s daily spending and withdrawal limits? (Swiped payments if you’re making a payment in a store, and Online and in-app payments if you’re making a payment in an online store or app)
  • Does your device have the NFC contactless payment feature? Is it on? (if you’re paying in a store)
  • Does your device support HCE (Host Card Emulation)? (Check this from your device’s settings or the manufacturer.)
  • Note that in certain situations, a successful payment requires an internet connection. (Google Pay regularly refreshes the card added on a device.)

More support is available on the Google Pay website:

If you use Google Pay to make a purchase in a store, your card’s limit for Swiped payments will be checked. If you pay in an online store or an app, your card’s limit for Online and in-app payments will be checked.

When you pay with Google Pay, you can’t use Plussa money or Plussa benefits, because Google Pay doesn’t support the Plussa customer loyalty programme. The easiest way to use K-Plussa is via the Plussa-mobile card. The Plussa-mobiilikortti app can be downloaded for Android phones and it works in the K Group stores just like the contactless Plussa card.

Download the Plussa-mobiilikortti app from Google Play Store on your phone. Enter your Plussa number (shown on the back of your card) to set up your mobile card. When you go to a store, just wake up your phone and take it near the payment reader. The reader will recognise your mobile card and you get the Plussa benefits from your purchase.

Alternatively, before you pay, you can show the payment reader either an OP card that includes the Plussa feature or a separate Plussa card.

OP cooperative banks’ owner-customers get Product Protection Insurance for the purchases they pay via Google Pay with an OP Classic, OP Gold, OP Platinum, OP Duo or K-Plussa Maksuaika card.

Security and safety

Google Pay is safe. Your card details won’t be stored in the app or on your device. To send a payment, Google Pay uses a device-specific number and a transaction-specific code. Google doesn’t have access to your payment card details and they won’t be given to merchants when you pay.

To confirm larger purchases, you need to unlock your device, meaning that only you can pay with your card via Google Pay. You can also modify your Google Pay settings so that contactless payments always require unlocking the smart device (Settings – Connected devices – Connection preferences NFC – Turn on Require unlock for NFC). Google Pay doesn’t work on phones that are rooted.

Google Pay is an easy-to-use, safe and touch-free payment method. You don’t need to touch the buttons of a card reader or handle cash when shopping. You can enjoy the same card benefits* and protection as when paying with your physical card. Your purchases will be charged from your card the same way as when you pay with a card. Your transactions will show in the app immediately after you have paid.

Because you won’t need your card’s PIN when you pay, no one will be able to see it. You can always be assured that you have your card with you on your device. If your phone is lost, unauthorised persons won’t be able to see your card details or pay with your phone. If you lose your card and deactivate it, you can get a new card available to you right away on your phone, if needed.

You can try to locate your device with Google’s Find My Device app (www.google.com/android/devicemanager) and, if needed, lock or delete information stored on your device. You can also make a search using the words ‘Find my phone’, and Google will show your phone’s location on a map.

If you can’t find your device, immediately call OP Deactivation Service at 0100 0555 (24/7) to deactivate the card details added to Google Pay. Note that your physical card doesn’t need to be deactivated if you still have it, but you can continue using it.

Immediately call OP Deactivation Service at 0100 0555 (24/7) to deactivate the card. You can order a new card during the call. It will show on your Google Pay right away, and you don’t need to be without a card at all.

The card details will be automatically updated to Google Pay if you received a renewed card that has the same number as your old card or if your card was lost or stolen and your replacement card has a new number. You can continue to use Google Pay normally.

If you cancel your card, Google Pay can no longer be used with your card.

Go either directly to the Google Wallet app on your device, or first log into OP-mobile. On OP-mobile, select the card and go to card settings (the gear icon), and then tap Manage in Google Pay. Once you're in the Google Wallet app, select the card you want to remove. Go to the three dots at the top right corner and tap Remove payment method.

When you add a new device in your Google account, the card details on Google Pay will be linked to your new device. However, you do need to confirm adding the cards to Google Pay. You can do it either on OP-mobile or the Google Wallet app. If you can’t find a card on your new device, you can add it again.

Setting up Google Pay requires accepting Google’s Terms of Service. By accepting them, you consent to sharing your Google Pay transaction information with Google and its partner companies. Google will use the information in accordance with Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, for purposes such as displaying transaction information on Google Pay, marketing and advertising. You can cancel your consent anytime by removing your card from Google Pay.

• You can confirm a purchase by unlocking your phone. If your screen locking method is not sufficiently safe, you will be asked to verify your identity separately before accepting the purchase.

• Set a sufficiently safe locking mechanism to your phone, such as a passcode, lock pattern, password, fingerprint, iris scanner or 3D face recognition.

• If the locking mechanism is not sufficiently safe, you can open Google Wallet before paying. Wallet will ask for the required authentication in advance.

• If you wish, you can approve mobile payments without needing to open the screen lock when paying on transport vehicles.

• In certain situations, mobile payment may also require further confirmation. Always follow the device’s instructions.
