Accessibility status of digital service

Pohjola Insurance’s Live It website meets the accessibility requirements in part. Non-compliance with requirements and the applicable exemptions are listed below. The content mainly consists of functions that can also be accessed by assistive technologies.

Inaccessible content

There are accessibility deficiencies in the Live It website, for example, in button titles and the title hierarchy, focuses, dropdown menus, embedded videos and video content highlights (e.g. the carousel, YouTube Shorts). The website applications do not yet fully support the use of assistive technology such as screen readers, and there are problems in keyboard navigation. Other common issues in the service include the insufficient availability of text alternatives for graphic elements. More detailed issues in the website are listed below.

The issues are currently being fixed and the statement will be updated as the fixes are completed.

WCAG 2.4.11, general accessibility: (Cookie banners, Navigation and Headings)

  • The keyboard focus can be hidden underneath the banner, which may make it difficult for the user to form an understanding of where they are on the page. In addition, when the page is loading, the focus moves directly to the Accept all cookies button, which is why a user using a screen reader may not notice other content of the banner.
  • When the page is loading, the focus is already on the jump link, so the link is easily left unnoticed by both keyboard and screen reader users.
  • The names of the main navigation links do not match the main heading of the page.

WCAG 1.4.10, 4.1.2, 1.3.1, usability (menu)

  • Dropdown menu: The links at the bottom of the menu do not fit in their reserved space but require scrolling in two directions for a full view, and the screen reader also does not indicate the number of the elements.

WCAG 1.3.2, 2.4.6, 4.1.3, 4.1.2, 1.3.1, general accessibility (Carousel)

  • The text alternative of the carousel image is read with a screen reader whenever it changes even if the user is in a different area on the page.
  • The text alternative of the images of the carousel items is read before the heading.
  • The pagination buttons of the carousel are not accessible with the keyboard.
  • The screen reader does not indicate when the Continue/Stop button is pressed.
  • The pagination buttons are not buttons programmatically, and the selected page has been marked visually but not programmatically.
  • The purpose of the carousel’s Continue/Stop button is difficult to understand with a screen reader.

WCAG 1.4.11, 2.4.3, 1.3.3, general accessibility (YouTube Shorts)

  • There are no jump links below the listing, which is why a keyboard user “backing up” on the page must go through several videos before the first link.
  • The number of the videos is not audible at the beginning of the list.
  • When browsing with the tab key, the focus moves to the beginning of the list when the Scroll right button is pressed even if other videos were displayed visually.
  • The Scroll left and Scroll right buttons are difficult to understand for a screen reader user who does not see the visual presentation of the listing.
  • The Skip button moves to the next heading but does not read it. The screen reader user hears “tyhjä” (empty) and the heading is not read at all.

WCAG 1.3.2, general accessibility (Content highlights)

  • It would be helpful for a screen reader user if the videos were in the list programmatically, which would allow them to hear the number of videos at the beginning of the list.
  • When scrolling with the tab key, the focus moves to the beginning of the list when the Scroll right button is pressed even if other videos were visually displayed.
  • The Scroll left and Scroll right buttons are difficult to understand for a screen reader user who does not see the visual presentation of the listing.
  • The Skip button moves to the next heading but does not read it. The screen reader user hears “tyhjä” (empty) and the heading is not read at all.

WCAG 2.4.6, 3.1.2, general accessibility (Embedded YouTube videos)

  • The text alternatives of the embedded YouTube videos are in English.
  • The screen reader pronounces Finnish-language texts as if they were English.
  • Additionally, the title attribute of embedded videos fails to state that the item is a video.

WCAG 2.4.6 (Homepage heading)

  • The hidden main heading located on the homepage of the website is different to the title shown in the browser bar and the description text, which does not match the page contents.

WCAG 1.3.1 (Heading hierarchy)

  • The hierarchy of the headings does not match their relationships.

WCAG 1.2.1, 1.2.3, 1.2.5, general accessibility (video content)

  • All videos do not have subtitles.
  • Subtitles in nearly all videos are open captions, meaning they are part of the video directly. There was no separate closed caption track.
  • None of the videos have audio description.

WCAG 1.1.1, general accessibility (text alternatives)

  • Text alternatives have not been provided for all images, or an empty text alternative has been provided for images.

WCAG level AAA 2.4.9 (Read more links)

  • It is more difficult for screen reader users to know where the Read more links point if they use the tab key to navigate between interactive elements.

WCAG 1.3.1 (Content highlight texts)

  • Level 2 headings have been used for content highlight-type texts at the end of some pages.
