Why sell your car privately?

Selling your car using hire purchase is a simple and safe way to sell your car to a private buyer. By not going through a dealer, you’ll get a better price for your car. Thanks to OP hire purchase financing, you can advertise your car at its full market price.

When you sell your car using OP hire purchase financing, we will help you with the paperwork, including registration. You’ll receive the amount of the full sale price – minus any deposit – into your bank account in a single payment as soon as the bank has processed the transaction. After the sale has been completed, the ownership of the car will transfer to OP Corporate Bank until the buyer has paid off the final hire purchase instalment. The ownership of the car is then transferred to the buyer. Please note that to qualify for OP Financial Group's hire purchase financing, the car may not be more than 14 years old.

If the car is financed and owned by a finance company, our partner Autoraha can act as an intermediary in the transaction: Autoraha buys the car, pays off the original financing and sells the car to the interested buyer. In this case, the transaction procedure differs from that described on this page. You will receive separate instructions once a suitable buyer candidate is found.

  •  Include in your advert the standard text about OP hire purchase financing.
Copy the text below and use it in your car's advert

Prepare your care for sale

  •  Clean the car inside and out or have it cleaned professionally.
  •  Find the manual and the service book if you have it.
  •  Check the registration certificate.
  •  Check any service and repair receipts.
  •  Ensure that the motor vehicle inspection is valid and check when the next inspection is due.

Arrange a test drive

  •  Arrange a test drive with the buyer.
  •  Check that the driver has a valid driving licence. It’s also a good idea to ask for a deposit for the duration of the test drive.

Arrange a time with A-Katsastus

  •  Arrange a time with the buyer for taking your car to A-Katsastus for photography. You can have your car verified and photographed and the sale completed during the same visit. The transaction conclusion will take about two hours.
  •  If the buyer hasn’t made an appointment for completing the sale, book it on A-Katsastus website at a-katsastus.fi. The appointment is made at an A-Katsastus or Ajovarma branch office. Select “OP Autorahoitus” from the list of options.

Get ready to complete the sale

  •  Read the deed before the transaction.
  •  Before completing the sale, create an electronic certificate for the car registration. Once you’ve created the electronic certificate, it will be valid for 14 days. To create the electronic certificate, go to traficom.fi
  •  When you go to the appointment to complete the sale, take a valid photo ID with you.
  •  Bring along your online banking identifiers for electronically signing the financing agreement.
  •  If the car has more than one owner, make sure that all owners are present when the sale is completed. You cannot use a power of attorney to complete the sale.
  •  If the car is owned by a finance company, the transaction procedure differs from that described above. You will receive more instructions once a suitable buyer candidate is found.
You cannot ask for more than the market price. The vehicle acts as collateral for the hire purchase scheme and remains the property of OP Corporate Bank for as long as there are instalments still left to pay. To prevent fraud, we cannot offer the hire purchase scheme for vehicles priced far above or below the market price.
The buyer will pay you the deposit on the vehicle in cash or by bank transfer, and you will receive the rest of the sale price from OP Corporate Bank in one lump sum as soon as the transaction has been processed, usually within a few banking days.
You will need to declare any down payments when the finance agreement is drawn up.

Yes. First, ask the buyer to submit an application for hire purchase financing. If the car is financed and owned by a finance company, our partner Autoraha can act as an intermediary in the transaction. You will receive more instructions after submitting the application.

If you have bought the car with hire purchase financing from OP Corporate Bank, and the buyer is interested in transferring the current financing contract, you can contact our customer service: Frequently asked questions about hire purchase car financing.

OP Financial Group’s hire purchase scheme is limited to vehicles that pass a roadworthiness inspection. We recommend that you fix any issues with your vehicle before the transaction conclusion. This will also help prevent any disputes.
All owners of the vehicle must be present at A-Katsastus when the sale is completed. To prevent fraud, vehicle sales through OP Financial Group’s hire purchase scheme cannot be based on a power of attorney.

Financing is granted by OP Corporate Bank plc.
