Charlotta Westerback

Charlotta Westerback (b. 1999) began playing the viola at age seven at East Helsinki Music Institute. In autumn 2016, she enrolled in Sibelius Academy’s Youth Academy under teachers Teemu Kupiainen and Pirkko Simojoki. She began her professional studies at Sibelius Academy in autumn 2018 as a student of Pirkko Simojoki.

Charlotta Westerback has attended masterclasses by Tabea Zimmerman, Yuval Gotlibovich, Meta4, Lilli Maijala, Pirkko Simojoki and Garth Knox.

She began performing with orchestras at a young age in string orchestras at East Helsinki Music Institute. She has also been a member of the Wegelius string ensemble and the Finnish Chamber Orchestra’s Youth Academy. In autumn 2018, Charlotta Westerback performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the project Side by Side. Charlotta began her apprenticeship training at Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in spring 2019.

Charlotta Westerback has played chamber music since 2009 in string quarters and trios in various ensembles, including the Luminoso string quartet. She has performed as a soloist in the Unga solister concert with Wegelius chamber string orchestra and in Jorma Panula’s Piiparila with Voluntas chamber orchestra. In spring 2019, she performed in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Young soloists concert.

Charlotta Westerback plays OP Ryhmän Taidesäätiö sr (OP Art Foundation’s) Joannes Florenus Guidantus viola from 1737.
