Albert Sahlström

Albert Sahlström (born in 2003) began studying the violin at the age of five under Jennika Pohjola. From 2018, Albert studied under Janne Malmivaara at the Helsinki Conservatory of Music and up to 2023 at the Sibelius Junior Academy. In autumn 2023, he began studies under Elina Vähälä at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

Albert has participated in masterclasses under Mihaela Martin, Ilya Grubert, Cecilia Zilliacus, Liza Ferschtman, Jan Söderblom, Minna Pensola, John Storgård and Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, among others.

Albert performed as an orchestral soloist with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014 and with the Vaasa City Orchestra, Wegelius Kammarstråkar orchestra and Bulevardens kammarstråkar orchestra in 2017–2021. He gave recital performances at the Korsholm Music Festival and Sibelius’ birthplace in 2020 and at Vaasa Church in 2021.

As a chamber musician, Albert has performed at events such as the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Kamarikesä Festival and Tapering Festival (2023), the Korsholm Music Festival (2022) and the Iittala Music Festival (2020).

His most important competition achievements include third prize in the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition in 2019, participation in the Kuopio Violin Competition in 2020 and third prize in the Anja Ignatius Violin Competition in 2023.

Albert is one of Finland’s leading young violinists, who, despite his young age, has a strong musical vision. His playing demonstrates an excellent balance of technical abilities and musical maturity. Albert is an ambitious and modest artist with an impeccable work ethic. He is also an extremely talented chamber musician, who reacts and adapts to others’ playing.
