Windscreen cover – More than a windscreen insurance

Windscreen Cover is an optional additional cover in all comprehensive motor vehicle insurance options for passenger cars and vans, Super Motor Insurance for lorries and Maxi Motor Insurance for campervans.

What is windscreen cover?

Windscreen cover is an optional additional cover in comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. Windscreen cover insures your vehicle’s windscreen against damage from direct impact. Windscreen cover also protects the vehicle’s other windows and sunroof.

Windscreen Cover available for all comprehensive motor vehicle insurance options for passenger cars and vans, Super Motor Insurance for lorries, and Maxi Motor Insurance for campervans.

If your vehicle’s comprehensive motor vehicle insurance does not include an optional windscreen cover, window damage may, as a rule, be covered under the policy’s collision cover. In this case, however, the damage affects your policy’s no-claims bonus and unlike in windscreen cover, you must pay a deductible of 200 euros for the repairs. Loss event

Traffic is bustling as Elina is driving to her family’s summer house in Central Finland. It is early spring, and most cars on the road are still fitted with winter tyres. As she is overtaking a slower car, her windscreen is chipped by a tyre stud that has come loose from the car in front. The windscreen is cracked and must be repaired.

Insurance option 1: Windscreen cover

Elina’s motor insurance includes windscreen cover. Elina takes the car to a Pohjola Insurance windscreen repair partner, who repairs the damage and handles the insurance claim on Elina’s behalf. As the windscreen only requires patching, Elina does not need to pay a deductible. If the repair had required fitting a new windscreen, Elina would have needed to pay a deductible of 200 euros.

Insurance option 2: Motor liability insurance

Elina’s motor insurance only includes mandatory motor liability insurance. Motor liability insurance will not cover the car’s windscreen damage and Elina must pay the repairs or replacement out of pocket.

Windscreen Cover also an option in Medium and Standard Motor Insurance for vans

We have updated our motor vehicle insurance for vans as of 1 April 2021. With the update, Windscreen Cover is now available for Medium Motor Insurance and Standard Motor Insurance for vans as well as for Super Motor Insurance.

If you have Pohjola Insurance Medium or Standard Motor Insurance for a van and have purchased the insurance before 1 April 2019, Windscreen Cover is not automatically included for your car. If you want to add Windscreen Cover for your comprehensive motor vehicle insurance, go to your insurance policies and select your current motor vehicle insurance. After this, you can submit the request to add windscreen cover to your insurance. You will be notified separately once we have confirmed the change.
