What is emergency road service cover?

Emergency road service cover: Which travel interruption costs are covered?
The scope of coverage in emergency road service cover depends somewhat on your choice of comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. Below are examples of the types of extra costs caused by travel interruptions that are covered by emergency road service cover.
Emergency road service cover compensates:
1. Vehicle recovery costs
Emergency road service cover reimburses the costs of pulling the vehicle back onto the road or towing an unroadworthy vehicle to the nearest repair shop. The insurance also covers towing costs when your vehicle won’t start at your home.
Instead of towing costs, the insurance can alternatively cover the repair technician’s labour and travel costs if the damage or malfunction is repaired on site. However, these expenses are covered up to the cost of towing the vehicle.
By using the towing services of our partners REDGO or SOS Hinaus, you ensure that the claim will be the most affordable for you.
2. Additional travel and accommodation costs in Finland
Emergency road service cover compensates the driver's transport and travel expenses to their home town or the point of departure or destination and the passengers’ point of departure or destination if
- the vehicle was repaired and made roadworthy but this took so long that it was necessary to continue the trip by some other means of transport.
- the vehicle was stolen and remained missing for so long that it was necessary to continue by some other means of transport.
- the vehicle was damaged beyond repair.
Transportation and travel costs are only reimbursed up to the cost of returning home. Other additional expenses are covered to up to 200 euros in all comprehensive motor vehicle insurance options, with the exception of Super Motor Insurance. Emergency road service cover included in Super Motor Insurance reimburses other additional expenses to up to 500 euros.
3. Additional travel and accommodation costs outside Finland
Emergency road service cover compensates the driver's transport and travel expenses to their home town or the point of departure or destination and the passengers’ point of departure or destination if
- the vehicle was repaired but repairs to restore its road safety took more than three working days, as a consequence of which the trip had to be continued by some other means of transport.
- the vehicle was damaged and rendered unroadworthy and will not be repaired until returned to Finland.
- the vehicle was stolen and the trip was continued by some other means of transport.
- the vehicle was damaged beyond repair.
Transport and travel expenses are reimbursed according to the cost of the cheapest means of transport within the insurance’s territorial limits up to the cost of returning home. If the loss occurred outside the Nordic countries, the trip or the transportation is arranged by the vehicle emergency service.
Emergency road service cover: Which travel interruption costs are not covered?
Emergency road service cover assists if your trip is interrupted due to a road accident or a technical malfunction in your vehicle. However, the insurance does not cover loss or damage caused by
- deficient maintenance of the vehicle or any of its parts or excess strain on the vehicle
- sinking through the ice on a winter road, unless the road is in public use and meets the safety requirements of the road authorities
- losing the vehicle’s keys or locking them in the vehicle
- participating in a competition, training for a competition or driving practice or while otherwise driving on a race track or in an area or section of a road closed to public traffic.

Emergency road service for passenger cars covers rental car expenses in EEA countries
When your passenger car is insured with Super Motor Insurance, the insurance may cover rental car expenses in EEA countries outside Finland as an alternative to reimbursing the driver’s and passengers’ travel expenses. In this case, we cover the costs of an available rental car with a standard trim level and no larger than the insured passenger car.
If the rental car is damaged and the deductible for its insurance is higher than the deductible for the equivalent cover for the car insured by the insurance company, the difference will be covered under the insurance company’s policy.
Fuel, excess waiver insurance and other voluntary payments related to the rental car are not covered. Rental car costs are covered to up to 1,200 euros over a maximum of seven days.
