If you have child insurance, you do not have to queue

You learn something new with your child everyday, and you never know what’s going to happen next. When your child is hurt or falls ill, you do not feel like queueing to see the doctor or have an examination.

A child insurance, that is, a child’s health and living allowance insurance, enables your child to have the best possible treatment without having to wait for it, also privately and without having to worry about the expenses.

It’s advisable to get child insurance as early as possible, so that illnesses emerging before the policy enters into force will not affect coverage. This way you may even avoid exclusion clauses.

Child insurance grows as your child grows. Child insurance covers your child from the first checkup after birth and all through childhood and teenage years right up to adulthood.

Suitable child insurance for you and your family

You can choose whether you want the child insurance to cover only accidents or both accidents and illnesses, including examinations and surgery. Child insurance also covers medication and will help in recovery, because it compensates for a variety of therapies, such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

We recommend the most extensive child’s health and living allowance insurance, especially for young children. As the child grows, you can adjust the coverage as necessary, and the comprehensive insurance will continue to provide coverage until the age of 100.

My children had plenty of ear infections when they were under 3 years, and having ventilation tubes put in for both cost about 3,000 euros. Good job we had child insurance! It’s also handy that you can go straight to a specialist.

Child insurance includes coverage at home and in outdoor exercise

You can also choose to have the policy to cover a range a help needed at home. How would you like to have a policy that paid for a nanny when a doctor orders a child in daycare age to be treated at home? When your child is ill, it is also a relief that you can ask a doctor or nurse to make a home call.

Child insurance covers a child’s outdoor games and non-competitive exercise. If your child goes in for sports in a sports club and participates in competitions and matches organised by a sports club or federation, you can extend coverage to include competitive sports. This can be done by adding athletes’ cover to your health insurance, or through Sports Cover.

Insurance for a school-age child – is it worth the cost?

A child's illness can be stressful particularly between ages 3 and 6, but child insurance is also beneficial for school-age children. Did you know that lifelong illnesses often emerge during a child's school years? The most common medical issues among school-age children include colds, stomach flu, and various allergies and injuries. With child insurance, your child gets access to treatment quickly and can begin the recovery process.

Free-of-charge Pohjola Health Advisor service ensures quick access to care

When you take out a Child Insurance for your child, you can access the Pohjola Health Advisor service for instructions on your child’s health concerns. The service is free of charge and provided by experienced healthcare professionals, or health advisors.

Children tend to fall ill more often than adults and are prone to accidents. If your child falls ill or has an accident, a health advisor will give you self-care instructions or a referral to a physician with relevant specialisation. At best, you will have no need to visit emergency services and wait for treatment if the illness can be treated at home.

As our insurance customer, you will get a doctor’s appointment at our partner hospitals or clinics quickly through the easy-to-use Pohjola Health Advisor service. You can contact a health advisor with any concerns you might have about your child’s health or to decide whether you should see a doctor.

You can contact a health advisor by phone at 0100 5225 or via the Pohjola Health Advisor app. We recommend using the Pohjola Health Advisor service, as the service also makes filing a claim more convenient. The health advisor will file a loss report on your behalf and can also give you a claim settlement decision. In that case, the deductible is all you need to pay at your appointment at the partner hospital or clinic.

Price of child insurance

The price of child insurance is the sum of many parts. Above all, the price depends on how comprehensive you want your child’s insurance cover to be.

The price is lower if you choose to only insure your child against accidents. In this case, however, you exclude illnesses and their treatment and medication costs from the child’s insurance cover. In other words, the cheapest child insurance is not necessarily the best option. More important than the price is that the insurance helps when you need it.

In addition to the extent of coverage, the price of child insurance depends on the deductible and maximum compensation you select for the insurance. The amount of deductible for child insurance determines how much you pay out of pocket in the event of an illness or accident. By choosing a higher deductible, you can lower the price of the insurance.

A child’s health and living allowance insurance is granted on the basis of the child’s own health declaration. An child’s guarding fills in the health declaration on the op.fi service, and it is used to determine whether the policy can be granted.

A policy may nevertheless be granted even if the child is not entirely healthy. This means that any of the child’s diseases that have already emerged may affect the extent of coverage offered.

It is important that you do not terminate any existing policy until you have received a decision that a new policy has been granted.

As a Pohjola Insurance prime customer you will receive discounts benefits. When you are also an OP cooperative bank owner-customer, you have access to even better benefits and discounts and the bonuses you have received as an owner-customer are used for your insurance premiums.

The insurance is issued by Pohjola Insurance Ltd.
